Medzabaki legend
Once upon a time on the shore of Lake Lilaste there lived a tall and handsome fisherman called Martin. He was very hardworking and easy to live with. When someone needed help, they turned to Martin, because everyone knew him as a pragmatic and helpful man. One morning a beautiful girl stepped out at his shore. It was Zane, the daughter of the beekeeper, who lived on the opposite shore of the lake. The father of her owned a large bee- garden. Zane was looking for a man, who could fix a new beehive, because the old beekeeper had become weak and couldn’t work as well as the young men. Martin got dressed quickly and set off with the girl. When the beehive was almost ready, the girl asked him inside, where he ate, drank and talked to the new hostess, who was treating him with mead until he understood that he had fallen in love and will not leave without her. The moon had already risen over the twinkling water of the lake and it was time for Martin to leave. What a surprise – instead of his heavy boots he found two funny honey-pots! The boots of Martin were full of fresh heather-blossom honey… Martin and Zane celebrated their wedding in fall and a new house was built in the next summer on the shore of the lake. The house was given the name “Medzabaki” (which means – boots full of honey). The couple led a long and a happy life…
